Matt Guffey
Hey there! I’m Matt, and I’m changing the way strength training is done for Brazilian jiu-jitsu athletes.
I know, that’s a bold claim. How do I know I can help you?
Because I’ve helped hundreds of BJJ athletes get the freedom to move as they please and the power to take on any challenge.
As a coach of 17 years and a brown belt under Caio Terra, I’ve seen countless BJJ practitioners get tossed all over the mats. People of all shapes, sizes, and ages — even naturally athletic people with a history of lifting.
I’ve seen my training partners struggle with nagging injuries and miss out on valuable training time.
I’ve seen them lose to opponents they should have beat because of strength.
And I’ve seen all of that disappear… once they committed to efficient, effective strength training at Victory Submission Strength.
I know technique is important, but I’ve seen super technical athletes get smashed by stronger technical opponents.
I knew there had to be a better way.
I became obsessed with learning everything I could about the best ways to gain strength and mobility for BJJ.

Small group personal training is the best of both worlds: everyone has a custom program built for them, their body, and their goals as well as a coach to guide them safely and efficiently. AND you get to do it in a kick-ass team environment (up to 5 athletes total) where other like-minded athletes support each other along the way.
True 1 on 1 personal training often runs over $150/hour. The small group personal training model makes individualized coaching more accessible at less than half that price—based on the average of 2x/week on an annual membership agreement. -
This ain't your mom's online Zumba class. This is tailored personal training. You'll have your own unique program built to get you where you want to go as quickly and as safely as possible under the supervision of an expert coach who is there to make sure you get RESULTS.

We do NOT offer jiu jitsu classes. We offer strength training for jiu jitsu practitioners, grapplers, and athletes of all kinds.

NOPE, anyone can train here. While most of the athletes here practice jiu jitsu or some other type of grappling art (wrestling, judo, etc.), we work with anyone age 12 and up who wants to move, feel, and perform better.

Between our thorough assessment process and expert coaching, we meet you where you're at and push you the right amount. You can rest assured knowing you'll make progress without injuring yourself.

This depends on you and your goals, but MOST athletes train with us 2x/week. This allows you to spend more time doing what you love and less time toiling away in the gym.

Training is a recipe, not a menu. We don't recommend athletes add weight training that isn't on the scheduled program because then we can't tell what's working and what's not. PLUS, you'd be amazed at how much progress you can make in only two days per week when it's structured and monitored the right way—which means you'll have a ton more time for the things you love OUTSIDE the gym.
That being said, if you have your heart set on adding an extra day or two to your strength and conditioning regimen, we're happy to program that for you at NO extra cost. This can be done at a gym closer to your home or during our open gym hours (M, W, Th, F 12-1:30pm). -
We highly recommend continuing to strength train around any limitations you have. This is because blood flow is what helps heal injuries, and continuing to move will promote blood flow. Our expert coaches are skilled at scaling workouts to fit what your body can do today.
We also have a very strong professional network of physical therapists and orthopedic surgeons we're ready to refer to if we can't find a solution to the problem. -
We have super flexible options ranging from 1x/week to 4x/week and three month or annual membership terms.
